Community Arts & Experts Program

The Centre for Indigenous Fisheries is first and foremost a community not just of scientists, but also of knowledge holders, artists, and friends. The Community Arts & Experts Program aims to highlight and support collaborators within the CIF community who work with us in sharing knowledge and expertise through (but not limited to) artistic creation, teaching, poetry and storytelling, and the co-creation of research. These are paid positions reserved for individuals whose relationships to fish and water span beyond the confines of academic research and Western science, ultimately enriching what we do and who we are in the CIF. Each year, we welcome in a new Community Artist, and hold ongoing space for Community Experts, including a standing position for a member of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nation.

Terms of Agreement

Terms of Agreement are co-created to define the purpose and structure of the Community Arts & Experts Program, with each position tailored to the individual and their role within the team. Our Community Artist Agreement follows the template offered by the Toronto Arts Council. Our Community Expert Agreement is still under development, but will follow a similar structure. Each agreement is co-created by Dr. Andrea Reid and the program participant on an annual basis.
