About Reaching Out

  • We are grateful for your interest in connecting with us! However, please note that our team often receives more messages than we can respond to and handle well.

Part of doing the work we do well (including the work of responding to messages and inquiries), involves caring for our personal wellbeing and building healthy boundaries for healthy relations.

To help support us in our commitment to doing good work, we ask that you consider reading Jesse Popp’s article, “Want to reach out to an Indigenous scholar? Awesome! But first, here are 10 things to consider” before contacting us.

Thank you for your understanding and support!
    With care,
    The CIF Team

  • General inquiries should be submitted using the form to the right. Alternatively, if the form is not working for you, you can email cif[at]oceans.ubc.ca directly. Prospective students should email Dr. Andrea Reid directly (see details under ‘Prospective Students’).

Joining Our Team

  • We love hearing from those interested in joining the CIF – especially prospective Indigenous students wishing to work in their home territories. Unfortunately, we receive many more requests than we have spaces available, so priority is given to those with the strongest alignment to the CIF’s mission and vision. To discuss possibilities with Dr. Andrea Reid, you can contact her at cif@oceans.ubc.ca (not using the web form to the right) and describe why you are a good fit for the CIF, what your research interests are, and how they respond to community needs and priorities. Please also include a positionality statement (who you are, who you are accountable to, where you are from). We highly recommend reviewing this website in full before reaching out. We hold our hands up to CLEAR for inspiration in framing these approaches.

  • For more information about joining the Indigenous Advisory Council or Community Arts & Experts Program please visit the Council and Program pages and review the detail provided.

  • Please Refer to the Creative Collaborators page.
